PITMAN, NJ – Anthony J. Jannetti, Inc. (AJJ) is pleased to announce that one of its nurse executives, Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE, has begun her role as president of the American Board Of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) , a not-for-profit membership organization focused on improving patient outcomes and consumer protection by promoting specialty nursing certification.

Dr. Hinkley, of Swedesboro, NJ, currently serves as CEO for two AJJ client partners, the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) and the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB), national nursing organizations headquartered in Pitman, NJ.

Dr. Hinkley, who began her 2-year term for ABNS on July 1, will work with the ABNS Board of Directors (BOD) to promote the value of nursing certification and advance knowledge of nursing certification through research, biannual symposia, and thought leadership. ABNS also promotes certification program accreditation to demonstrate quality nursing certification programs.

“It is my privilege to serve as ABNS president and continue the strong leadership of the organization in the pursuit of nursing excellence through nursing certification,” Dr. Hinkley said. “I look forward to working with other nursing certification bodies to continue to drive research and evidence-based outcomes that demonstrate the value of nursing certification to patient safety and quality outcomes. Educating the public about the mark of excellence nursing certification represents continues to be a focus for ABNS and I am excited to continue ABNS’ efforts in this area.”

ABNS member organizations represent almost 930,000 certified registered nurses worldwide in a variety of settings. ABNS offers nursing credentialing organizations an opportunity to provide resolutions to specific issues facing nurses.

Dr. Hinkley’s Background and Experience

In her role at AJJ, Dr. Hinkley oversees AMSN, a specialty nursing association comprised of 11,000 medical-surgical nurses, and MSNCB is a certification organization that administers the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®) certification program. She is responsible for strategic management, product innovation, fiscal oversight, and revenue growth for both organizations.

Dr. Hinkley has more than 30 years of nursing experience in the acute care health care setting, including 20 years in clinical research. She has 8 years of association management experience and more than 25 years of operational and strategic management experience in the health care arena.

She is a member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence BOD and also serves on the BODs of the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) and the Otsuka Patient Assistance Fund. In addition, she teaches an online continuing education nursing program in Toronto.

Dr. Hinkley received her RN from Centennial College, BScN from York University, her Executive MBA from Athabasca University, and her EdD in the Executive Leadership (ELP) Human and Organizational Learning (HOL) Program at the George Washington University. Her research interests include strategic thinking, nurse intuition, second victim syndrome and moral injury.
