The Nursing Economic$ Connie R. Curran Scholarship

May 19, 2015

PRESS RELEASE: Pitman, NJ - To honor the passion and activism of nursing leader Connie R. Curran, EdD, RN, FAAN, who passed away in 2014, her colleagues at Nursing Economic$ Journal are establishing an endowment in her honor. The endowment will support an annual scholarship in Curran’s name to advance the education and research activities of nurse executives.

Curran served as Editor of Nursing Economic$ Journal for 18 years, and later as Editor Emerita. She was an original member of the Nursing Economic$ Foundation Board of Directors, where she personally underwrote the Nursing Economic$ Connie R. Curran Scholarship, an annual scholarship of at least $5,000 awarded to a nurse executive pursuing a graduate-level degree.

Curran’s colleagues at Nursing Economic$ are establishing the endowment in Curran’s honor, which will allow the Foundation to continue to provide the Nursing Economic$ Connie R. Curran Scholarship, and realize her vision for the future of nursing and the role of nurse leaders.

“Connie’s enthusiasm, intellect and energetic advocacy allowed her to drive key health care and nursing discussions, and improve nursing education, practice and research,” said Nursing Economic$ Editor Donna M. Nickitas, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNE, FAAN. “Her deep impact on nursing and health care is felt by so many individuals, families, communities and organizations. We hope to raise $100,000 with this endowment so we may celebrate Connie and continue her legacy.”

The scholarship and endowment will be administered through the Nursing Economic$ Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Since its inception in 1990, the Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million to future nurse executives for tuition, fees, and other expenses incurred while completing their degrees. Contributions are tax deductible as the law allows.

Contributions to the endowment can be made using the Nursing Economic$ Connie R. Curran Scholarship Donation Form. Completed forms and checks should be returned to Nursing Economic$ Foundation, East Holly Avenue/Box 56, Pitman, NJ 08071.
