The Manager, Media and Communications, will be responsible for promoting media exposure for AJJ’s health care association clients. Primary activities include connecting reporters with our associations’ experts, pitching article ideas, and developing strong relationships with members of the health care, nursing, and lay media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee media relations and communications activities.
  • Build relationships with media – outreach and pitching.
  • Develop new - and maintain existing - databases of media contacts.
  • Fulfill incoming media requests – match requests with our client experts.
  • Write press releases.
  • Stay well informed about health care news and establish a personal strong professional presence on social media platforms (primarily Twitter) that encourage engagement with reporters.
  • Log, track, and share all media coverage across platforms.
  • Provide media training – individual and group, for all AJJ client partners.
  • Advise clients on strategic communications.
  • Work with association clients to develop detailed media and communications plans. Planning includes timelines and budgets, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Works extensively with Corporate AJJ staff and other departments such as Creative Design and Production, and Information Services.
  • Submit regular reports to BODs/EDs/CEOs.
  • Speech writing and ghost writing.
  • Managing editor: Oversee all phases of production for two electronic newsletters. Also includes writing, editing, finding graphics, redesigns, working with clients and AJJ staff, tracking, doing promotional issues, reporting results.
  • Oversee other media, communications and editorial special projects as assigned by the Vice President, Publications Division such as assisting with advocacy outreach and writing descriptions of association services, events, and campaign.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience – agency or association experience a plus.
  • Strong writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong project management experience, handling changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Interest, experience, and passion for all things news media.
  • Experience with all social media platforms, and e-newsletter production.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills; creativity.
  • Confident speaker and presenter.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and ability to communicate with a wide range of people within AJJ, Inc. and with AJJ clients.
